December hasn't arrived

At least not in my garden, which still thinks it's September. We've managed to dodge frosts until this week, and many of my plants are still flowering when they really should be resting or dying off.

I grew these Mesembryanthemums from seed, and they are now at their best.

Apples are still clinging on for dear life, like baubles on a Christmas tree.

This Salvia was late to get going, and is now making up for lost time

Yes, this poppy still has buds on it in December!

Stipa and Sedums are hanging on, just.

This lantana overwintered without protection last winter. I wonder how it will do this year?

Some of the roses are still blooming.

This one, Rosa 'Lucy' still has plenty of buds, which may not get chance to open.
Even though I am not spending much time in the garden at the moment, it is nice to pop out and see some flowers still doing their thing. And the odd bee here and there. And before long new shoots will emerge and the whole thing starts over again. Can't wait!

  1. Hi Martin, nice to have a chance to look at some photos of your garden, again. I am very surprised to see that the poppies are still blooming for you. Love the roses, of course :-), and the photo with the stipa and sedums, the latter being so calm and serene.

  3. My goodness, that looks like a September garden, not a December garden. Enjoy.

  4. Lucky you - my garden is looking very wintery. I am impressed with your Mesmebrantums (sp?) - I tried to grow them from seed once, germinated in the airing cupboard, forgot about them and they went leggy and had to go on the compost heap!!

    1. Easily done! Never mind, try again, they are easy to grow, just a bit fiddly to prick out due to their very thin stems.

  5. Martin, Great to visit again today. Love your photos. Here on the shores of Lake Michigan I often use the lake as a backdrop to the garden photos since it is the very "life" of this place. Will be back. Jack

  6. Garden is still looking lovely Martin! This weekend we've had heavy frosts for the first time so some herbaceous plants are wilted already. Time to be chopping these dead vegetations soon!
