Cornwall

Just back from a fantastic week in Cornwall. The weather was pretty good, sunny half the time, and only one wet day - and even then only for an hour or two. So I can't complain. And the rental property was probably the best we've had. We stayed at Gorran Haven, not far from Mevagissey. Many narrow lanes have to be negotiated before emerging at this beautiful stretch of coast, but it's worth it. The property had amazing views, which I've photographed through the sun lounge windows:

During the week we visited around twenty gardens! And much as I love Camellias, I do not feel the need to see any for quite some time! However, my plan is to feature each garden over the coming weeks, so please return every couple of days to share my snaps of Cornwall's finest. This year I didn't visit the Eden Project as I've been many times before. Instead, I tried to seek out some of the lesser known gardens that I've never visited before. I found some real gems, and can't wait to share them here. Tune in tomorrow for the first garden.

  2. The views were stunning - but hardly saw them as I did so much garden visiting! Still, nice to have a peaceful place to come home to after a hard day's photography and cake munching!

  4. Hello Martin, What a gorgeous view. I’m sure you never got tired of looking out those windows. Thank you for becoming a follower of my blog. I’ve added your blog to my blog roll as well. I’m so looking forward to seeing your future posts.

  5. I've been to Gorran Haven but I dont remember finding 20 gardens nearby, I assume you travelled quite a bit. I suppose the downside of visiting lots of gardens at this time of year is that they will all be very similar but still a lovely way to spend Easter

    1. Yes we travelled far and wide, but Gorran Haven was fairly central. I muct admit I did tire of Camellias after a week but you'd be surprised how different the gardens were - check back and see!

  6. What a view! Makes me want to book the next flight to Cornwall. What was the temperature like? What made you decide on Cornwall?

    1. It was around 13 degrees celsius most of the time which isn't great, but we're used to that! Cornwall typically enjoys milder winters than most of the UK, so Spring tends to arrive early. As I love rhododendrons and camellias, a trip to Cornwall at Easter means I can see all these wonderful flowers, and then in May I can see them all over again here in Sussex! A double helping, you might say!
