No rain no gain!

Although the weather has not been much fun recently, the garden is just loving all this extra water. Plants that have struggled in recent years have just gone crazy.
These outrageous lilies are a cheery addition to my patio.

Rosa Cream Abundance is living up to its name.

Dianthus looking dandy

Pots of Arctotis keep flowering for months when deadheaded regularly.

Artotis 'Flame'

Fluffy Erigeron have been flowering their socks off.

Salvias and pokers emerge from the foliage of Aconitum.

Rosa 'Paul's Himalayan Musk'

Lychnis coronaria

Here Lychnis is backed by self-seeded Salvias.

Sedums nestle between Stipa tenuissima, which I grew from seed 5 years ago.

Echinops are getting ready to flower between pokers and a climbing rose.

This fennel just appeared, and is now over 6 feet tall!

My lilies are hiding in the background this year.

  1. You are right about the garden loving the rain - trouble mine is loving it too much - plants that have hardly grown before have shot up and are smothering other plants. The rain has made the garden sort of fold in on itself - everything flattened and leaning. Not the best year for gardening!

  2. Yes Elaine I've had quite a few plants collapse, and I've just cut them down to the ground as I'm not a fan of staking. Never mind, perhaps we'll have an awesome August and a sizzling September!

  3. Fantastic photos Martin, your garden is looking great! Things may have been slow to begin with but everything seems to be catching up now. Yes, most of the plants are loving the extra moisture :)

  4. Your garden is looking terrific Martin. I don't think I have seen Arctotis before, I will keep a look out for this one.

    1. Arctotis are amazing performers, flowering for a good six months. Their common name is African Daisy (as they are from South Africa) and they will usually survive the winter in a heated glasshouse. Can't recommend them highly enough, they are my 'desert island plant'!

  5. Your plant combinations are beautiful. And you are right, everything in the garden looks so lush.

  6. How beautiful pictures and flowers you have. We've had a lot of rain here in Finland. Far too much I think. The flowers have begun to fall and rot, because they don't get any sun.

  7. Well, your Arctotis bloom better than my Arctotis, but on the other hand, I don't have to bring them in for the winter. Amazing how everything looks so gorgeous in your garden despite lots of rain. Beautiful!
