Memories of Miami

There's not much happening in my garden at the moment - so I thought I'd take a trip down memory lane to Miami, a visit I was lucky enough to make last Easter. A fabulous time to go to Florida as it's not too hot and the mosquitos haven't quite sharpened their fangs. Miami was perhaps an unusual choice of destination for my first trip to the States, but I had a wonderful time. Alligators, Florida Keys, the Art Deco glamour of South Beach etc. But I made sure I did some garden visiting too - and today I'm remembering Vizcaya, a sprawling villa and garden to the south of Miami. Built by agricultural industrialist James Deering in 1916, the formal gardens cover 10 acres. Most impressive to me was a collection of orchids growing in hanging baskets - beautiful!
